Starling Class - Year 6

Welcome to Starling Class!

It has been lovely to welcome our Year 6 Class after the summer break and hear about all of the lovely things they did during their holiday. They are all looking very smart and have made a great start to the new year.

This half-term we are learning about World War II and how to live a healthy lifestyle. For Starling Class, PE day will be on a Wednesday afternoon and we will be Swimming on a Friday morning, however, we may also do PE on other days, so please can your child keep their PE kit in school.

The Curriculum folder will include details of what the Year 6 children will be studying in different lessons throughout the next term.

Homework will be giving out on a Wednesday and will be expected to be due in by the following Tuesday where we will always mark the homework together and address any misconceptions. If a child is struggling with their homework they may ask a teacher for some support before Tuesday.

As with previous years, children will be expected to learn their spellings as home and read at least 4 times a week, recorded in their reading records.

Spring Term

This term our main topic will be Life in Ancient Egypt. In Science, we will be learning about the Solar System and about Sound. Our class novels and writing lessons will link to these topics. In Maths we will be working with fractions, decimals and percentages; algebraic equations; converting units of measurement; finding perimeter and area and handling data.

I look forward to seeing you all at Parents Evening.

Thank you

Mr Foster

It has been lovely to welcome our new Year 6 Class back after the summer holidays. We have had a busy few weeks but I have enjoyed meeting all of the children and families here at St John's. Thank you very much for making me feel so welcome.

This term we are going to be learning all about 'Children through the ages' which will include plenty of history work, looking at the changes from Victorian times to now! Haslett Class PE day will be on a Friday afternoon, however, we may also do PE on other days, so please can your child keep their PE kit in school. Also, we will have Outdoor Learning on a Friday afternoon, so please could they bring in suitable outdoor clothing. Finally, the children will be Swimming on Friday mornings, so please can they make sure they have their swimming kits then.

Have a look in the curriculum folder below to see all of the other exciting things that will be learning about this half-term. I will aim to add photos, class letters and homework in the folders below.
