Starling Class - Year 6

Last Half Term of Year 6!!

It has been lovely to see so many happy faces return to school eager to learn in the FINAL Half Term of St John's for Year 6.

After such a fantastic effort in SATs, it is now about the build up to Secondary School and ensuring we are all prepared for the next step. There will be many transition days and activities to ensure all children are prepared.

We have already completed some wonderful writing tasks using our new book 'A Beautiful Lie', which the children are really enjoying. In Maths we are learning about the Mean, Median, Mode and Range, as well as completing a variety of different investigations.

Our main topic for this half term will be Ancient Greece and our PE lessons will be on Mondays and Swimming lessons will be on Fridays (beginning 17th June, TBC), so should be in correct kit for those days.

Homework tasks will remain the same this term: reading 4 times a week; spelling lists to practise at home; Maths sheets to complete each week; and the occasional topic-based task.

Thank you for your continued support.

Friday 18th February 2022

Good Morning. Please take care and look after yourselves. For today’s work, please test yourself on this week’s spellings (if you have someone who can test you, that would be excellent). In Maths, you are going to complete your arithmetic work. Use the methods you have learnt throughout this year and check your answers and calculate your score at the end. For Guided Reading, read each text and decide if the answers are true or false. In Writing, have a go at the first Peregrine Falcon task (there is a second task if you want to challenge yourself). In the afternoon, there is an Art and a PSHE task for you to complete.

Good luck with your work.

Have an excellent Half Term break! Enjoy relaxing, spending time with your family and most importantly keep yourself safe.

Take care!

Mr Foster and Mrs Cook

Year 6 - Starling Class

Happy New Year!

It has been lovely to see so many happy faces return to school eager to learn in the Spring term.

We have already completed some wonderful writing tasks using our new book 'The Last Bear', which the children are really enjoying. In Maths we are learning about Decimals, Percentages and Algebra.

Our main topic for this half term will be a local history study, so we will be learning about Wellington. If you have any information that you think would be useful, please do send it in to school so that we can share it.

Starling Class will be taking part in PE lessons on Mondays and Fridays, so should be in correct kit for those days.

Homework tasks will remain the same this term: reading 4 times a week; spelling lists to practise at home; Maths sheets to complete each week; and the occasional topic-based task.

Thank you for your continued support.

Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to Year 6! We have had a great first week back and it has been lovely to see every child come back in with such a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

We are still in bubbles in class and playtime but things look like they are slowly getting back to normal.

Please take a look at the half-term plan in the Curriculum Planning section of the website to find out what topics we are covering subject by subject; hopefully the Starlings will be coming home telling you about their learning and will teach you a thing or two!

As usual, I would like to remind you about the importance of hearing your child read every night, if you can, but on a minimum of 4 occasions in the week, if time is short. We shall be continuing with the Reading Championship competition as it seems to be such a great motivator so, by the end of the year, your child might be sporting 6 badges.

PE lessons will be taken by the brilliant Mr Parsons on Mondays and by Mr Foster on Fridays so please make sure you child comes to school in their kit on those days to maximise learning time.

Homework in Year 6 consists of a weekly spelling list or investigation, some Maths work and some English work. There will be the occasional piece of topic homework.

Should you have any queries, please come and see me in the Year 6 classroom, or give the school a ring to arrange a meeting. I look forward to getting to know the wonderful Starlings and their families.

Many thanks.

Mr Foster
