Welcome To Simmonds Class

2023 - 2024

 Autumn Term

A big welcome to the children and families of the new Simmonds Class. I look forward to meeting you all and seeing you on Wednesday 6th September 2023.

Meet the Teaching Team in Simmonds Class:

Miss Brown - Class Teacher (Mon-Fri)

Miss Waygood - Learning Support Assistant (Mon-Fri)

PPA Cover - Mr Parsons and Mrs Groves (Tues afternoon)

We are fortunate to have additional members of staff supporting at various times throughout the week including; Mrs Collins and Mrs Harding.

Please do take a look at the Autumn term planning document in the ‘Curriculum Planning’ section of the website to find out what topics we are covering subject by subject. We have a busy term of learning ahead, so I am sure the children will have lots to tell you! I have also included a section on ways to help support learning at home.

The partnership between learning in school and at home is still extremely important as your child moves through Key Stage 2. The children will now be developing some independence and may choose to read a book for pleasure which is brilliant. However, it is still very important that they read to an adult and have their Reading Records signed. As a reminder, our St John's Reading Challenge expectation is to read at least 4 times each week. Their efforts will be recognised and rewarded in the Reading Championship competition and with class incentives.

In addition to reading, the children will have weekly spellings and times tables to practise at home.

Spellings will be taught 4 days a week and there will be a spelling test each Friday. New spellings will be given out on Fridays for the children to practise at home.

The children will also have a weekly Times Tables sheet to practise at home.

All homework can be accessed on the 'Homework' Star above.

The children have PE on Tuesdays and should come to school wearing their PE kit. There will be some weeks where an additional PE will take place on a Friday morning. The children will be informed in advance of this and will need to wear their PE kit.

Simmonds class are lucky enough to participate in weekly trumpet lessons. These lessons happen on a Wednesday afternoon.

I look forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks and should you have any queries, please come and see me at the end of the school day in the Office foyer  or give the school a call to arrange a meeting.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Best wishes,

Miss Brown
