Otter Class- Year 3

Welcome to Otter Class

otter autumn 1 2019

Welcome back to a very busy and exciting Autumn term.

Summer seems a long, long way away now but it was great fun to hear all the children's news on return to school. We are also very lucky to have two new members of our class, so welcome to them.

Our new topic is all Wonderful Wellington, through which the children will be learning to read and create their own maps. We will also be enjoying a great trip to Sheppys Cider Farm (no, they won't be drinking any of the cider, nor will the staff) and a walk to Wellington Monument to sketch and explore the great outdoors.

In science lessons we shall be learning about forces and magnets. This will involve lots of investigations, measuring and comparing amounts of friction. The children will be learning a lot of scientific vocabulary along the way.

Our class book this term is 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe'. For those of you who haven't read it yet, this is a wonderful story by CS Lewis which enjoys tradition and fantasy rolled into one exciting story.

I am hoping that you will continue to support your child with their homework this term. It is particularly important that they read to you on a daily basis but at least 4 times a week. They should also be learning their tables and also practising for their Club 55 mental arithmetic test. Practice papers will be sent home on a Monday or Tuesday so you can see where they are making mistakes and help them. There will also be the usual weekly spellings. It would be lovely to have more children with full marks.

Popham class will be having their outdoor learning sessions on Tuesday afternoon and  PE on Tuesday and Friday. Please can you make sure that their kits are in school all week, just in case there are timetable changes.

If I haven't met you yet, please come and say hello either before or after school. It would be lovely to get to know all the parents.

Thank you.

Homework

Homework - Otter homework is always sent home on Friday and due in the following Friday.

Spellings - Otter spellings are given out every Friday. To assist your child with learning their weekly spelling, focus on the spelling pattern that they contain. The spelling test will take place on Friday morning.

Maths - The children will be tested on their times table knowledge every Friday. They will also be given a Club 55 test and practice papers will be sent home on Monday or Tuesday.

Reading - It is very important that the children continue to read every night and the information is recorded in their Reading Record Log. This must be signed and dated by an adult. Book bags should be brought into school every day and, if a book is finished at home, please record this in the Reading Record Log.
