Awesome Otter Class

otter autumn 1 2019

Hello Otters! I don't think it will be too long before we are back together in the classroom so let's makes these last few weeks of home learning really productive. Life Skills Week gave you the opportunity to learn lots of practical tasks which I hope you will continue to use.

We are back onto the timetable now so everyday I will be putting a sequence of lessons onto this class page. Try to achieve what is manageable and don't forget to e-mail me on: stjohns.otter@gmail.com if you are stuck and need help.

I have now started setting a weekly spelling test for you to have a go at. It is a little different from our usual one but have a look at the words on Monday, practise them daily and then ask an adult to test you on the Friday.

We have an exciting start to the week with a live science lesson at 10:30am. I shall put the materials you need on this page and then just link into the website to join in. I have never done this before so please let me know how you get on.

You all voted for our new class book and the winner was 'Billy The Kid' which I know you will enjoy. Make sure you tune into the new chapters under the storytime title on the class page.

I am hoping that you will continue to support your child with their homework this term. It is particularly important that they read to you on a daily basis but at least 4 times a week. They should also be learning their tables and also practising for their Club 55 mental arithmetic test.

Let's rock this summer term, Otters.

Homework

Homework - Otter homework is always sent home on Friday and due in the following Friday.

Spellings - Otter spellings are given out every Friday. To assist your child with learning their weekly spelling, focus on the spelling pattern that they contain. The spelling test will take place on Friday morning.

Maths - The children will be tested on their times table knowledge every Friday. They will also be given a Club 55 test and practice papers will be sent home on Monday or Tuesday.

Other - an extra 20 minute piece of homework based on the maths or grammar learned in class.

Reading - It is very important that the children continue to read every night and the information is recorded in their Reading Record Log. This must be signed and dated by an adult. Could you also please state clearly if the book has been finished. Book bags should be brought into school every day and, if a book is finished at home, please record this in the Reading Record Log. We shall now be checking the book bags on a Monday and Thursday only in order to free Mr Wilkie up to work with children as checking a class set of reading record books is a very lengthy task.
