🌟Important Information for Simmonds Class🌟

PE

*Simmonds Class will have PE lessons with Mr Parsons on Friday mornings.

*The children will also benefit from additional PE curriculum enrichment in the form of cricket sessions on Wednesday provided by Somerset Cricket.

*Please can all children come to school wearing their school PE kit on Wednesdays and Fridays.

*Swimming for Year 4 will be in the summer term. More details to follow nearer the time. These will be sent via SCOPAY.

The Archie Project

*This year, the children in Simmonds Class will be a part of an exciting new initiative and partnership. You may well have heard of Reminiscence Learning, a local charity promoted within the town, who operate nationally and engage with many schools and care settings in Wellington and beyond.

*Throughout this academic year, Simmonds Class will be taking part in a cross-curricular scheme of work on dementia, as part of the PSHE curriculum. The resources and lesson plans, developed by Reminiscence Learning, will help to raise awareness amongst young people and help to create a dementia-friendly generation.

*St John’s Primary School will be partnered with Wellington and Longforth House and the children will get to know some residents and familiarise themselves with the setting throughout the year. We will make regular visits to Wellington and Longforth House throughout the year and at all times, the children will be supported by a member of school staff in the Year 4 Team.

Trumpet Lessons

*Every Wednesday, the children in Simmonds Class will have a music lesson provided Somerset Music.

*Our music teacher is called Mrs Wordley. She will teach the children how to play the trumpet, how to read music and practise many songs.

*We look forward to performing to parents/carers during the summer term.

Important Reminder

*We are a NUT FREE school. Please do take care when sending in snacks or packed lunches. Morning snacks should be fruit or vegetables, and drinks bottles should contain water please.

Thank you.

🌟All About Simmonds Class🌟

Simmonds Class hosts our fantastic Year 4 cohort. Like all class names in our school, these names are of inspirational people. All of the children in our school had the opportunity to suggest names of significant people and vote for their favourite.

Simmonds Class is named after Ellie Simmonds, a famous former British Paralympian Swimmer. Ellie Simmonds is best known for her incredible achievements in Swimming. She holds the title of being the youngest-ever individual Paralympic or Olympic gold medalist at an inspiring age of just 13! Now that she has retired from her swimming career, she works hard to promote sport for all including young people who may have special educational needs and/or disabilities.

In Simmonds Class, we reflect on how her determination to succeed and the significant role she now plays in supporting and serving the younger generation aligns with our School Values.
