    Fri 31 Mar 2023

Year 4 children from St John’s C of E Primary school, joined other primary schools at Wellington School Sports Hall today for a morning full of sports.

The children had a fantastic time, taking part in many different activities, all based around various bat and ball games. They did volleyball, ping pong, badminton, tennis and other games, sometimes using very large beach balls and balloons!

It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning for all children and staff.

Students told their teacher, “It was brilliant fun, and I’d love to go again. I’m really hoping we can do some of these activities at school during P.E.”

St John’s celebrate World Book Day all Week!

Children and staff at St John’s Church of England Primary school have immersed themselves into books everyday this past week. Throughout the week, each class has worked on a different fairy tale, learning the story, recreating their own version, creating artwork and even using the story to develop their maths skills.

Then on Thursday 2nd March, they celebrated World Book day by either dressing up as a favourite book character, or as a word. So many children and staff took part in this celebration, and many even had fun making their own outfit. The school became filled with many famous book and comic book characters, fairy tales, princesses and princes and words such as ‘colourful’ and ‘intuitive’. The day finished off with an assembly, whereby a child from each class was presented with a certificate for their outfit, their dedication to the character and for some who made their outfits all by themselves at home.

Teaching staff have commented “The children had a brilliant day in their costumes, and it was amazing to see the effort they had all made to become a character or word. The quality of their art and writing this week has been phenomenal and we cannot wait to have it put on display for all to enjoy.”
