SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

SUMMER TERM

Hello Lark Class

While many of you are still at home, I think it's really important to have a routine, so that when you come back to school you are all ready to start again. It's important to: get up in the morning, wash, get dressed, clean your teeth, eat well, keep fit, get some fresh air, and also to go to bed at a sensible time.

In order to keep a routine, try to do some school work each day. You could do maths and writing in the morning (as we usually do) and then one other subject each afternoon. Remember to keep reading, practising spellings and 55 Club each day.

In the Class Homework folder below, you will find a range of work including: Maths, Writing, Grammar, Science and RE. I will also include ideas for PE, Music, Art and Topic-related work.

Keep up to date with Brightstorm, by listening to the chapters in the Story Time folder.

If you have any queries at all or would like to share your work, please email us, we will be pleased to hear from you.  stjohns.lark@gmail.com

Best wishes,

Miss Roberts, Mrs Webb & Mrs Beard

EASTER HOLIDAY

Hello! I hope you enjoyed the KS2 disco and Mr Priestley's video.

I won't be adding any work during the Easter holiday, but will continue to add chapters of Brightstorm (which I hope you are enjoying). I have also added the solutions to the Maths questions (in the Homework folder).

Enjoy the Easter holiday and the lovely weather, but please remember to stay home and stay safe.

Miss Roberts

If you are at home and need to contact Miss Roberts, please email stjohns.lark@gmail.com and I will reply as soon as possible. smiley

World Book Day 5.3.2020

After a good break at half term, we have continued to be very busy in Lark Class. We are now learning about fractions and have been looking at writing for information. We are continuing to learn about the UK.

On World Book Day, there were lots of great costumes and we had an action packed day learning about the author Vashti Hardy. We were excited to receive some Tweets from her and also to hear that she had won The Best Story prize in the Blue Peter Book Awards 2020 competition.

Please see below for Spring 2 medium term planning.

LARK CLASS

It was lovely to welcome all the children back after the festive break. The first day back was a Discovery Day and we spent the day exploring maps and map symbols. This was a great way to introduce our main topic for this half term which is The United Kingdom - a Geography based topic. More details of our curriculum coverage this term can be found in the Planning folder below.

Lark Class have PE on Tuesday afternoons, so please make sure PE kits are in school.

Homework is given out on Thursdays and should be handed in by the following Wednesday at the latest.

We continue to hold our weekly Reading Challenge. Please make sure your child reads at least 4 times each week and has their reading record signed by an adult.

The January newsletter can be found in the Newsletter folder below.

WW2 Evacuation Day

Welcome to our class page. We have changed the class names and Year 5 are now called Lark Class.

The children have made a good start to the autumn term. We have researched facts about skylarks, written poetry and sketched pictures of birds. Our work will soon be on display outside the hall.

This term our main topic will be World War 2. We will explore this period of history through the eyes of children and learn about events such as evacuation and rationing.

Our long term and medium term plans can be found in the class planning folder.
