In commemoration, and as part of their topic work, the children in Year 5 and 6 at St John's Church of England Primary school took part in a World War Two day on 10th November 2021. Throughout the day, visitors came into school to share information about the war and the children were able to look at artefacts from that time. They learnt a great many facts about lots of items brought in by the Living History Mobile Museum in the morning, and some even got to try on a soldier's jacket, helmet and their webbing.
In the afternoon, they were joined by Candy Adkins, the daughter of the famous Spitfire girl Jackie Moggridge. She shared a great deal of information about her famous mother, who was one of the very first female pilots and is greatly recognised for her achievements in aviation.
The children were so inspired by Jackie's courageousness during such challenging times, and many now would like to consider joining the forces when older after today's WW2 experience day. A very memorable day was had by all, and it proved to be quite an emotional and inspiring day.
