Everyone joined in with well-loved songs and listened to the Year 6 children who read the Easter story. The service also had each class sharing their work with handmade Easter crowns, songs including the ever so popular Spring Chicken, poems which some classes wrote themselves, the events leading up to Holy Week and Easter symbol artwork. Reverend Colin regaled the congregation with the Easter story which included props from his garden!

It was a wonderful service, and it is always a real pleasure to join our community in church and celebrate a special time of year together. We are always so proud of our children, and they really impressed us today with reading aloud, performing songs and saying prayers. This is often a real challenge to speak in front of a crowd, for adults as well as children, and they did it superbly! Once again, they have been fantastic ambassadors of our school and really shared joy and hope with our school and community.

Thank you to all the children, staff and parents who made this service such a joyous occasion and we are wishing everyone a very happy Easter.

Every child had a brilliant experience when the theatre team performed, and for some this was the first time they had seen a live show. The children were thrilled by the story, joined in with the songs, participated in certain parts, and were entranced by the scenery, costumes and use of light, projections and puppetry. They were also thrilled to be in the middle of the action, as the characters joined the audience.

Many cheerful, happy faces were seen around the school for the rest of the day, and tunes could be heard throughout the school. The Wizard of Oz production is going to be remembered for a very long time and will be inspiring many pieces of creative work over the next term.

When chatting to the children, they found it very hard to pick their favourite characters as they were all so wonderful. Many loved Dorothy for her kindness, the scarecrow for being so funny, the tinman for being so caring and the lion for sitting amongst the audience being comforted when scared! One child commented on how impressive the whole show was, especially with so many characters and scenery changes with only four actors!

“M&M Productions have become yearly treat for those at St John’s, and the enrichment the children gain from this experience is priceless. We have already booked them in for next year and feel this is a very valuable element to our school curriculum” stated Olly Priestley, Headteacher.

Throughout the week, classrooms were buzzing with hands‑on science experiments. Children explored everything from craters to constellations, discovering fascinating facts about our solar system.

The excitement really started when our young engineers designed, built, and launched rockets of all shapes and sizes.

The children also enjoyed delving into the stories of famous astronauts. From Neil Armstrong’s giant leap to Mae Jemison’s inspiring journey, pupils discovered the courage, curiosity, and teamwork which space exploration demands.

The grand finale came on Friday with an exciting visit from Wonder Dome, whose immersive mobile planetarium brought the universe straight to the school hall.  Inside the dome, pupils lay back and gazed at dazzling stars, swirling galaxies, and distant planets. Gasps, wows, and “Can we stay here forever?” echoed through the air.

Science Week was a truly out‑of‑this‑world experience for everyone involved.
